Orlando Man Charged With Receiving Child Pornography
Kevin Michael Hutchinson, a 36-year-old resident of Orlando, Florida, has been charged with receiving child pornography. The federal criminal complaint filed against him alleges that Hutchinson initially distributed child pornography via a mobile messaging application and later received multiple images and videos of child pornography via the internet.
According to court documents, Hutchinson distributed child pornography hours before a federal search warrant was executed at his home on May 24, 2024. The warrant was issued as part of an ongoing investigation into child pornography distribution. Hutchinson was taken into custody after the warrant was executed and has been detained pending the outcome of the case.
The case against Hutchinson is part of Project Safe Childhood, a nationwide initiative launched in May 2006 by the U.S. government to combat the growing epidemic of child sexual exploitation and abuse. Project Safe Childhood marshals federal, state, and local resources to locate, apprehend, and prosecute individuals who sexually exploit children, and to identify and rescue victims.
Hutchinson faces a minimum mandatory penalty of 5 years, and up to 20 years, in federal prison if convicted. A criminal complaint is merely a formal charge that a defendant has violated one or more of the federal criminal laws, and every defendant is presumed innocent unless, and until, proven guilty.
The case was investigated by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement’s Homeland Security Investigations, with assistance from the Florida Department of Law Enforcement. It will be prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Shawn P. Napier.
Hutchinson made his initial appearance in court earlier today and has been detained pending the outcome of the case. The case against him is ongoing, and further information will be released as it becomes available.
