Daniel C. Irwin, Child Pornography Distribution, Missouri 2014

KANSAS CITY, Mo. – A Kansas City, Mo., man has been sentenced to federal prison for distributing child pornography. Daniel C. Irwin, 38, pleaded guilty to the charge on August 27, 2014, in federal court.

Irwin, an assistant vice president of accounting at State Street in Kansas City, admitted to distributing a video of child pornography over the Internet on July 21, 2014. The video was sent to an undercover detective with the Kansas City, Mo., Police Department. Irwin also attempted to meet with the undercover detective’s two minor daughters, ages 12 and 16, for sex.

As part of his plea agreement, Irwin admitted to sending additional videos of child pornography to the undercover detective on August 4, 2014. He is subject to a mandatory minimum sentence of five years in federal prison without parole, up to a sentence of 20 years in federal prison without parole.

The case is being prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Patrick D. Daly. It was investigated by the Kansas City, Mo., Police Department and the FBI.

The case was brought as part of Project Safe Childhood, a nationwide initiative launched in May 2006 by the U.S. government to combat the growing epidemic of child sexual exploitation and abuse.

Irwin’s sentencing hearing will be scheduled after the completion of a presentence investigation by the United States Probation Office.

The U.S. government is committed to protecting children from sexual exploitation and abuse. This case is a reminder that those who engage in such behavior will be held accountable for their actions.
