Drug Trafficker Sentenced to Over 10 Years in Prison
A Sun Prairie man has been sentenced to 121 months in federal prison for distributing methamphetamine. Daniel Gibbs, 37, was found guilty of selling one pound of methamphetamine to a confidential source on three separate occasions in August and September 2021.
The investigation, led by the Drug Enforcement Administration, revealed that Gibbs had sold one pound of methamphetamine to a confidential source on three separate occasions at a residence in Sun Prairie. On November 10, 2021, agents executed a search warrant at the residence, where they found approximately four pounds of heroin, a kilogram press, and a loaded firearm.
Gibbs pleaded guilty to the charge on September 14, 2022. At the sentencing hearing, Chief U.S. District Judge James D. Peterson stated that Gibbs had committed a ‘very serious drug trafficking crime’ by distributing significant quantities of methamphetamine and heroin.
Gibbs has a history of committing violent crimes, having previously served substantial time in federal prison for a kidnapping and extortion conviction.
The investigation was conducted and funded by the Organized Crime Drug Enforcement Task Force (OCDETF), a multi-agency task force that coordinates long-term narcotics trafficking investigations. The case was prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Aaron Wegner.
Gibbs’ sentencing is a significant blow to the community, as it highlights the ongoing efforts to combat the opioid epidemic and reduce the flow of illicit substances into the state. The sentence also serves as a warning to those who would engage in similar activities, that they will face severe consequences.
With this conviction and sentence, law enforcement has successfully disrupted a major methamphetamine trafficking operation in the area, and we will continue to work tirelessly to protect our communities from the scourge of narcotics trafficking.
