Genovese Crime Family Captain Pleads Guilty to Racketeering

NEW YORK, NY – In a significant blow to the Genovese Organized Crime Family, Captain Daniel Pagano has pleaded guilty to participating in a racketeering conspiracy in Manhattan Federal Court.

Pagano, 61, of Rockland County, admitted to being a leader of the criminal enterprise and exercising a leadership role within the Family by settling disputes between and among associates of the Family.

The racketeering conspiracy, which spanned nearly five years, involved operating an illegal gambling business and committing a wide array of crimes, including operating an illegal gambling business.

Pagano faces a maximum sentence of 20 years in prison and is scheduled to be sentenced by U.S. District Judge Ronnie Abrams on July 10, 2015.

Manhattan U.S. Attorney Preet Bharara praised the efforts of law enforcement agencies involved in the investigation, including the FBI, Rockland County District Attorney’s Office, and the New York City Police Department.

The investigation was a result of the Organized Crime and Drug Enforcement Task Force Program, which combined the resources and expertise of federal and local law enforcement agencies.

Pagano’s plea is a significant victory for law enforcement in their efforts to dismantle the Genovese Crime Family and bring its leaders to justice.
