A 28-year-old Omaha man has been sentenced to 87 months in prison for drug and firearm charges. Daniel Rojas, 28, was sentenced on June 2, 2022, in federal court in Omaha, Nebraska.
Rojas was found guilty of being an addict in possession of a firearm and for possessing with intent to distribute methamphetamine. The charges stem from a traffic stop on July 3, 2020, at the Aksarben Suites located on Cedar Street in Omaha.
During the stop, officers observed Rojas leaning forward in an awkward position. A K-9 alerted to the scent of drugs on the passenger side front window of the car. Upon searching the car and a black bag located under the front passenger seat, officers found a .40 caliber Smith and Wesson SD40 firearm and approximately 1 gram of methamphetamine.
Rojas was arrested on November 16, 2020, on federal charges stemming from the possession of the Smith and Wesson firearm on July 3, 2020. At the time of his arrest, Rojas admitted to possessing methamphetamine in a white Buick parked nearby. Over 100 grams of methamphetamine were recovered from Rojas’s car.
This case was investigated by the Omaha Police Department and the Drug Enforcement Administration, Omaha Field Division. It is part of Project Safe Neighborhoods, a program bringing together all levels of law enforcement and the communities they serve to reduce violent crime and make our neighborhoods safer for everyone.
Rojas will begin a 5-year term of supervised release after his release from prison. There is no parole in the federal system. His sentence comes as part of a renewed focus on targeting violent criminals and reducing violent crime in our communities.
Rojas was found to be in possession of a firearm while using drugs, a serious offense that puts the community at risk. His sentence serves as a reminder that our law enforcement agencies are committed to keeping our neighborhoods safe and holding those responsible for violent crimes accountable.
