Baltimore Man Sentenced to 9 Years for Gun Crime
Baltimore, Maryland – In a significant blow to Baltimore’s crime scene, 36-year-old Daniel Taylor has been sentenced to nine years in federal prison for possession of a firearm in furtherance of drug trafficking. The sentence was handed down by U.S. District Judge Richard D. Bennett on August 20, 2020.
According to his plea agreement, from June 2020 to August 2020, Taylor conspired with others to distribute quantities of cocaine in Baltimore. The investigation, led by the ATF and the Baltimore Police Department, revealed that Taylor was involved in a cocaine distribution conspiracy.
On June 26, 2020, Taylor had a recorded conversation with an inmate, during which he discussed his involvement in narcotics trafficking. He used code words to refer to cocaine and the area where narcotics were sold.
On August 20, 2020, the ATF executed a search warrant at Taylor’s Baltimore residence, where they recovered a 12-gauge shotgun, five rounds of 12-gauge ammunition, and two rounds of 12-gauge shotgun slugs. Taylor admitted to possessing the firearm in furtherance of the cocaine distribution conspiracy.
Acting United States Attorney Jonathan F. Lenzner praised the ATF and the Baltimore Police Department for their work in the investigation. He also thanked Assistant U.S. Attorneys Zachary Stendig and Lindsey McCulley, who prosecuted the case.
Taylor’s sentence serves as a reminder of the serious consequences of engaging in gun crime and narcotics trafficking. As the city of Baltimore continues to grapple with the issues of crime and violence, cases like this one demonstrate the importance of collaboration between law enforcement agencies and the justice system.
