A Florida man has been sentenced to federal prison for his role in a methamphetamine trafficking operation in Louisiana.
Dante Bowman, 23, was sentenced to 108 months imprisonment, 3 years of supervised release, and a mandatory $100 special assessment fee by U.S. District Judge Jane Triche Milazzo, after pleading guilty to a one-count indictment which charged him with possession with the intent to distribute five hundred grams or more of a mixture or substance containing a detectable amount of methamphetamine in violation of Title 21, United States Code, Sections 841(a)(1) and 841(b)(1)(A), announced U.S. Attorney Duane A. Evans.
According to court documents, following a traffic stop on Interstate-10, law enforcement officers located approximately 3.1 pounds of methamphetamine within locked canvas bags hidden in the spare tire area of a vehicle rented by Bowman.
At the time of the traffic stop, Bowman was driving a vehicle that had been rented from a car rental company. The vehicle was stopped by Louisiana State Police on Interstate-10.
Homeland Security Investigations and the Louisiana State Police led the investigation into Bowman’s activities, which resulted in the discovery of the methamphetamine and ultimately, his indictment and sentencing.
The prosecution was handled by Assistant United States Attorney Lynn E. Schiffman of the Narcotics Unit.
Bowman’s sentencing serves as a reminder of the ongoing efforts to combat methamphetamine trafficking in Louisiana and across the nation.
