A Coraopolis man has been sentenced to 57 months in federal prison for violating drug trafficking and firearms laws.
Hasan Sharif Reed, age 37, of Coraopolis, Pennsylvania, was sentenced yesterday by United States District Judge Mark R. Hornak for his role in a massive cocaine trafficking operation.
According to court records, Reed and his co-conspirators distributed and possessed with the intent to distribute more than 300 grams but less than 400 grams of cocaine from October 2013 to April 2014 in the Western District of Pennsylvania and elsewhere.
The investigation, funded by the federal Organized Crime Drug Enforcement Task Force Program (OCDETF), was a collaborative effort between local and federal agencies, including the Federal Bureau of Investigation, the FBI Greater Pittsburgh Safe Streets Task Force, Wilkinsburg Police Department, and others.
Assistant United States Attorney Troy Rivetti prosecuted the case on behalf of the government. Acting United States Attorney Soo C. Song commended the agencies involved in the investigation, praising their hard work and dedication to bringing Reed to justice.
Reed’s sentence was imposed despite a request from his counsel to vary downward from the advisory sentencing guidelines range. Judge Hornak rejected this request, citing Reed’s significant criminal history, which includes three prior convictions involving firearms.
The 57-month sentence will be followed by four years of supervised release. Reed’s conviction marks a significant blow to the organized crime syndicates that plague the Western District of Pennsylvania.
