Ava Blackwell, 24, and Kareem Jamal Jones, 27, Indicted for Heroin Trafficking in Johnstown, Pennsylvania

JOHNSTOWN, Pa. – A federal grand jury in Johnstown has indicted two residents of Johnstown and Philadelphia for violating federal narcotics laws. The indictment charges Ava Blackwell, 24, of Solomon Homes, Johnstown, Pa., and Kareem Jamal Jones, 27, of Philadelphia, Pa., with conspiring to distribute and possess with the intent to distribute less than 100 grams of heroin.

According to the indictment, from August 25, 2016, through September 14, 2016, Blackwell and Jones conspired to distribute and possess with the intent to distribute less than 100 grams of heroin. On multiple dates, Blackwell was alleged to have distributed less than 100 grams of heroin, while Jones was accused of distributing less than 100 grams of heroin on September 7, 2016.

The indictment also alleges that on September 14, 2016, Blackwell and Jones possessed with the intent to distribute less than 100 grams of heroin. The maximum total sentence for Ava Blackwell is 100 years in prison, a fine of $5,000,000, or both, while Kareem Jamal Jones faces a maximum sentence of 60 years in prison, a fine of $3,000,000, or both.

The investigation that led to the indictment was conducted by the Laurel Highlands Resident Agency of the Federal Bureau of Investigation and the Cambria County Drug Task Force. Assistant United States Attorney Stephanie L. Haines is prosecuting the case on behalf of the government.
