Dara Briann Redmond, Methamphetamine Trafficking, Iowa 2019

A massive methamphetamine bust in Cedar Rapids, Iowa has sent a local mother behind bars for a decade. Dara Briann Redmond, 38, was sentenced to 120 months in federal prison for trafficking over a pound of methamphetamine from her home, where her three minor children also lived.

According to court documents, Redmond, who had pleaded guilty to conspiracy to distribute methamphetamine on March 25, 2019, admitted to selling the deadly substance to a confidential informant on two separate occasions. The bust was the result of a joint investigation by the Drug Enforcement Administration, the Linn County Sheriff’s Department, and the Cedar Rapids Police Department.

During a search of Redmond’s residence, authorities discovered more than a pound of methamphetamine, a staggering amount that has left many in the community shaken. The discovery of such a large quantity of the highly addictive substance has raised concerns about the impact on the local community and the potential for further distribution.

Redmond’s sentence, handed down by United States District Court Judge C.J. Williams, also includes a five-year term of supervised release after serving her prison term. There is no parole in the federal system, and Redmond is currently being held in the United States Marshal’s custody until she can be transported to a federal prison.

The case was prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Emily K. Nydle, who worked closely with the investigative agencies to bring Redmond to justice. The community is breathing a sigh of relief that the individual responsible for trafficking such a large quantity of methamphetamine has been held accountable.

As the war on drugs continues, cases like Redmond’s serve as a reminder of the devastating impact that methamphetamine trafficking can have on individuals, families, and communities. The Grimy Times will continue to provide in-depth coverage of this and other high-profile cases as they unfold.

Redmond’s case is a stark reminder of the dangers of methamphetamine and the importance of community vigilance in preventing its spread. The public is urged to report any suspicious activity to the authorities immediately.
