Gun Store Heist Rocks Fairbanks Community
A brazen crime has left the residents of Fairbanks reeling as a local gun store was hit by a thief, resulting in the theft of multiple firearms.
According to court documents, on March 10, 2024, Darel Puller, 25, stole 22 firearms from a local gun store in Fairbanks. This egregious act of theft has sent shockwaves throughout the community, leaving many to wonder how such a crime could have occurred.
The indictment, which was returned by a federal grand jury in Alaska, charges Puller with two counts. Count one alleges that 21 of the stolen firearms were part of the business inventory, while count two alleges that one firearm belonged to the store’s owner and was not part of the business inventory.
U.S. Attorney S. Lane Tucker and Chief Ron Dupee of the Fairbanks Police Department announced the charges, commending the Fairbanks Police Department and Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) Anchorage Field Office and Seattle Field Division for their tireless efforts in investigating the case.
Assistant U.S. Attorneys Mac Caille Petursson and Carly Vosacek have been tasked with prosecuting the case, which is expected to go to trial in the coming months. If convicted, Puller faces a maximum penalty of 10 years in prison, as determined by a federal district court judge.
An indictment is merely an allegation, and all defendants are presumed innocent until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in a court of law.
