A 26-year-old Omaha man has been sentenced for being an unlawful drug user in possession of a firearm. United States Attorney Deborah R. Gilg announced that Darion Haynie was sentenced by Senior United States District Court Judge.
Haynie, of Omaha, was found guilty of being an unlawful drug user in possession of a firearm. The crime occurred on July 6, 2015, when the Omaha Police executed a search warrant at Haynie’s home in Omaha.
A Masterpiece Arms 5.7 x 28mm handgun was found in Haynie’s bedroom, along with 4.5 grams of marijuana and a marijuana grinder with marijuana residue inside. Haynie admitted ownership of both the gun and the marijuana.
Haynie was sentenced to five years of probation. While on probation, Haynie will be required to serve six months on home confinement.
The case was investigated by the Omaha Police.
In a statement, U.S. Attorney Deborah R. Gilg said that Haynie’s conviction serves as a reminder of the importance of keeping firearms out of the hands of those who are prohibited from possessing them.
Haynie’s case is a prime example of the Omnaha Police dedication to keeping our community safe.
As a result of Haynie’s actions, he will be closely monitored and required to comply with the terms of his probation.
