Paubon Ojo, a 27-year-old Columbia man, has been sentenced to federal prison for possessing a firearm and marijuana. On May 27, 2023, the Richland County Sheriff’s Department responded to a call about a man shoplifting at a store on Decker Blvd, which led to Ojo’s arrest. When officers arrived, Ojo attempted to flee but was detained and found with a stolen firearm in his pocket and 447.3 grams of marijuana in his backpack.
Ojo’s prior convictions for shoplifting, burglary, grand larceny, and strong-arm robbery made him ineligible to possess a firearm under federal law. Despite this, he was found with a gun and a significant amount of marijuana, leading to his latest conviction.
United States District Judge Joseph F. Anderson, Jr. sentenced Ojo to 100 months in federal prison, followed by a three-year term of court-ordered supervision.
