⏱ 2 min read

Davon Jermaine Mickle, a 40-year-old from Kershaw County, opened fire on three victims near a nightclub on August 19, 2023, after harassing one of them. The shooting occurred in the parking lot, where Mickle was seen walking around with an AR-style rifle before placing it in a car. After a short argument, the victims left, but Mickle returned with the rifle and shot at their car nearly two dozen times.

The Camden Police Department responded to the shooting and found 23 cartridges in the road. The victims’ car had one bullet hole in the bumper. Mickle was identified as the shooter and had an outstanding arrest warrant. Deputies from the Kershaw County Sheriff’s Office located Mickle at his residence, where they found an AR-style rifle in the passenger seat of his vehicle.

Mickle is prohibited from possessing firearms and ammunition due to previous convictions for cocaine distribution. A gun residue test proved that Mickle had recently fired a firearm. United States District Judge Joseph F. Anderson, Jr. sentenced Mickle to 180 months’ imprisonment, followed by a three-year term of court-ordered supervision.

Mickle’s sentence is a result of Project Safe Neighborhoods, a federal initiative aimed at reducing gun violence. The case highlights the importance of enforcing firearms laws and holding offenders accountable for their actions.
