A hail of gunfire shattered a quiet Washington D.C. afternoon when Keon Preston, 19, and two masked accomplices rained down over 30 rounds on a victim exiting his home in the 4600 block of G Street Southeast on March 23, 2025. Miraculously, the victim escaped unscathed, but his house and car were left riddled with bullets.
The brazen shooting was just the opening salvo in a violent crime spree that would leave a trail of destruction and terror in its wake. Later that evening, Preston, along with co-defendant Mekhi Greene, 19, and two other unidentified suspects, carjacked a victim at gunpoint in the 3500 block of East Capitol Street, Northeast.
As police closed in, the stolen vehicle careened into a dead end, and the defendants fled on foot. Officers recovered two illegal firearms, including one with an automatic conversion switch, from the vehicle. Preston and Greene were eventually apprehended and charged with a slew of crimes, including assault with intent to kill, possession of a machine gun, and carjacking.
Preston pleaded guilty to the charges on September 19, 2025, and was sentenced to eight years in prison, followed by three years of supervised probation. His co-defendant, Mekhi Greene, is scheduled to be sentenced on July 31, 2026.
