Davante Jamar Moore, a 34-year-old felon from Columbia, SC, was busted on March 29, 2024, when cops pulled him over in a traffic stop. Moore, the sole occupant of the vehicle, was found with a loaded firearm, marijuana, and other narcotics. He’s barred from possessing guns due to prior convictions for strong arm robbery and assault and battery of a high and aggravated nature.
The Columbia Police Department (CPD) made the stop, and a K9 unit alerted to the scent of narcotics. Upon searching the vehicle, officers found a yellow backpack containing a plastic bag of marijuana, various bags, a scale, and a container with white powder. The loaded firearm was also discovered, landing Moore in hot water.
Moore’s rap sheet, which includes strong arm robbery and assault and battery of a high and aggravated nature, prohibits him from possessing firearms. This didn’t stop him, and now he’s facing the music. United States District Judge Mary Geiger Lewis handed down a 57-month prison sentence, to be followed by three years of court-ordered supervision.
The case is part of Project Safe Neighborhoods (PSN), a nationwide initiative aimed at combating violent crime and making communities safer. The Department of Justice’s program brings together federal, state, local, and tribal law enforcement, prosecutors, and other public safety partners to coordinate efforts and tackle specific violent crime and public safety challenges.
