WHEELING, WEST VIRGINIA – A Wheeling man pleaded guilty to stealing firearms from a licensed dealer, federal authorities announced today.
Darius Alexander Savage, 24, admitted to stealing three pistols from a licensed firearms dealer in February 2022 in Ohio County. The theft occurred roughly a year ago, in February 2022.
The defendant faces up to 10 years of incarceration and a fine of up to $250,000 under federal sentencing guidelines. The actual sentence imposed will be based upon the seriousness of the offenses and the prior criminal history, if any, of Darius Alexander Savage.
Assistant U.S. Attorney Clayton J. Reid is prosecuting the case on behalf of the government. The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives, the West Virginia State Police, and the Ohio County Sheriff’s Office investigated.
U.S. Magistrate Judge James P. Mazzone presided over the proceedings.
The case serves as a reminder of the importance of enforcing firearms laws and protecting the community from those who would seek to exploit them.
Savage, whose prior criminal history was not specified, will be sentenced at a later date. Until then, his current status remains as a defendant in the case.
