Columbia Man Indicted for Firearms and Drugs
A 35-year-old West Columbia man has been indicted on multiple federal charges related to firearms and drug trafficking. Darius Antonio Pugh, 35, of West Columbia, was found in possession of firearms and drugs following a traffic stop by the Richland County Sheriff’s Department on April 9, 2022.
According to court documents, Pugh has been charged with three counts: felon in possession of firearms and ammunition, possession with intent to distribute methamphetamine, crack cocaine, and cocaine, and possession of firearms in furtherance of a drug trafficking crime.
The indictment alleges that during the traffic stop, Pugh was found in possession of firearms and drugs. If convicted, Pugh faces a maximum penalty of 10 years imprisonment on the felon in possession of firearms charge, a maximum of 30 years on the drug charge, and a mandatory minimum of 5 years with a maximum of life on the possession of firearms in furtherance of a drug trafficking crime charge.
Pugh is currently detained pending trial. The case is being prosecuted as part of the joint federal, state, and local Project Safe Neighborhoods (PSN) Program, which focuses on reducing violent crime through a comprehensive approach that includes enforcement and prevention efforts.
The case was investigated by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives (ATF) and the Richland County Sheriff’s Department. Assistant U.S. Attorney Stacey D. Haynes is prosecuting the case.
U.S. Attorney Corey F. Ellis stated that all charges in the indictment are merely accusations and that Pugh is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty.
