Waterloo Man Gets 100 Months in Prison for Drug and Gun Crimes
Darius Caston, a 33-year-old Waterloo man, was sentenced to 100 months in federal prison for his role in a drug trafficking crime and possession of a firearm. Caston was found with marijuana, methamphetamine, and a stolen and loaded gun in his car after a traffic stop on January 1, 2025.
Caston pleaded guilty to one count of possession with intent to distribute a controlled substance and one count of carrying a firearm during and in relation to a drug trafficking crime. He admitted to possessing the marijuana and methamphetamine with the intent to distribute them.
The firearm found in Caston’s car was loaded and stolen, and he was prohibited from possessing it due to a previous felony conviction. Caston’s sentence includes a four-year term of supervised release after his prison term. There is no parole in the federal system.
The case is part of Operation Take Back America, a nationwide initiative aimed at reducing violent crime and protecting communities from perpetrators of crime. The case is also part of Project Safe Neighborhoods, a program that brings together law enforcement and communities to reduce violent crime and gun violence.
Caston is being held in the United States Marshal’s custody until he can be transported to a federal prison. The case was prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Adam J. Vander Stoep and investigated by the Cedar Rapids Police Department and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives.
