Darius Williams, Felon in Possession of a Firearm, Louisiana 2022

A New Orleans man has been sentenced to 80 months in prison for being a felon in possession of a firearm, a crime punishable by law.

According to the U.S. Attorney’s Office, Darius Williams, also known as ‘D-Nice,’ was sentenced on August 10, 2022, by U.S. District Court Judge Lance M. Africk to 80 months in prison for violating Title 18, United States Code, 922(g)(1).

Williams, a resident of New Orleans, Louisiana, was also ordered to pay a $100 mandatory special assessment fee and placed on supervised release for a term of three years following his release from imprisonment.

The arrest of Williams was made on October 30, 2020, after he was observed openly brandishing a weapon while walking through the Pigeon Town neighborhood of New Orleans by New Orleans Police Department (NOPD) detectives.

As a convicted felon in 2019 for drug possession in Jefferson Parish, a crime punishable by imprisonment for a term of more than one year, Williams is prohibited from possessing firearms.

The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) assisted NOPD in the arrest of Williams on October 30, 2020, as part of the Project Safe Neighborhoods (PSN) initiative, which aims to reduce violent crime and gun violence in communities.

U.S. Attorney Duane A. Evans praised the work of the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives and the New Orleans Police Department in bringing this case to justice.

The case was prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Mike Trummel of the Violent Crime Unit of the U.S. Attorney’s Office.
