Robert Hall, Felon in Possession of a Firearm, Louisiana 2023

A 24-year-old New Orleans man has been sentenced to serve 57 months in prison for violating federal gun control act. Robert Hall, a resident of New Orleans, was sentenced on June 12, 2024 by U.S. District Judge Lance M. Africk.

Hall had previously pleaded guilty to being a felon in possession of a firearm, in violation of 18 U.S.C. §§ 922(g)(1) and 924(a)(8). According to court records, Hall was seen associating with individuals who were armed with concealed weapons on March 7, 2023. When stopped by police, Hall had a Smith & Wesson, .40 caliber semi-automatic handgun in his pocket.

Records checks confirmed that Hall had several prior felony convictions, including convictions for robbery and being a convicted felon with a firearm. The handgun was seized as evidence during the arrest. Hall’s history of violence and involvement in the gun trade made him a prime target for law enforcement.

The case is part of Project Safe Neighborhoods (PSN), a program aimed at reducing violent crime and gun violence. The program brings together all levels of law enforcement and the communities they serve to make neighborhoods safer for everyone.

The case was investigated by the Federal Bureau of Investigation and the New Orleans Police Department. It was prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney David Haller, Senior Litigation Counsel. The sentence handed down by Judge Africk includes three years of supervised release and payment of a $100 mandatory special assessment fee.

The sentence serves as a warning to those involved in the gun trade and a commitment to making New Orleans a safer city. U.S. Attorney Duane A. Evans said, “This case is a prime example of the results that can be achieved when law enforcement and the community work together to reduce violence and gun crime.”

In related news, the Department of Justice has launched a violent crime reduction strategy strengthening Project Safe Neighborhoods. The strategy focuses on fostering trust and legitimacy in communities, supporting community-based organizations, setting focused and strategic enforcement priorities, and measuring results.
