A 25-year-old New Orleans man is heading to the slammer for 41 months after pleading guilty to being a felon in possession of a firearm and ammunition.
Chris Robertson Jr. was sentenced by Chief U.S. District Judge Nanette Jolivette Brown on June 4, 2024, and will also serve three years of supervised release after completing his prison term.
According to court documents, Robertson had a box of 9-millimeter ammunition stashed underneath his mattress and a Glock Model 19, 9-millimeter handgun hidden under a rug outside of his bedroom.
The Federal Bureau of Investigation executed a search warrant at Robertson’s residence in November 2023, uncovering the illicit items.
Robertson’s rap sheet includes previous convictions for possessing a firearm with an obliterated serial number and attempted illegal carrying of weapons while in possession of a controlled substance.
The case is part of Project Safe Neighborhoods, a program aiming to reduce violent crime and gun violence nationwide. Robertson’s prosecution was handled by Assistant United States Attorney David Berman of the Violent Crime Unit.
The FBI led the investigation into Robertson’s illicit activities.
The sentencing is a major blow to gun crime in New Orleans, and Grimy Times will continue to keep a close eye on this case and others like it.
The mandatory special assessment fee imposed on Robertson is $100.
