Darrell Leon Jennings, Shipping Drugs Sourced from Mexico, California 2018

A Bakersfield trucker has been sentenced to five years in prison for shipping massive amounts of heroin and cocaine into the United States from Mexico.

Darrell Leon Jennings, 51, of Bakersfield, was sentenced today to five years in prison for conspiring to distribute and possess with intent to distribute heroin and cocaine, U.S. Attorney McGregor W. Scott announced.

Jennings, a trucker doing business in Moreno Valley as Jennings Transportation, assisted Mario Alvarez-Muniz, 50, of Taft, in transporting 6 kilograms of heroin and 11 kilograms of cocaine destined for Chicago.

According to court documents, Alvarez-Muniz arranged for the shipment of the drugs from Mexico to Mira Loma, where Jennings picked them up and drove back to Bakersfield.

It was there that he was stopped by agents, who discovered the hidden compartment containing the massive haul of narcotics.

A police dog located the drugs in a customized hidden compartment in Jennings’ truck, which was designed to conceal the illicit cargo.

The case against Jennings was the result of an Organized Crime Drug Enforcement Task Forces (OCDETF) investigation by the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration, California Highway Patrol, Bakersfield Police Department, and Kern County Probation Office.

Co-defendant Mario Alvarez-Muniz, 50, of Taft, previously entered a guilty plea and was sentenced last year to a prison term of 10 years and 1 month.
