Covington Man Sentenced for Possession of Child Pornography

A Covington man has been sentenced to 108 months in prison for his role in a child pornography case.

Darrell Ricks, 66, was sentenced on October 21, 2016 for knowingly downloading and receiving images and videos depicting the sexual victimization of minors, according to court documents.

This case was brought as part of Project Safe Childhood, a nationwide initiative launched in May 2006 by the U.S. government to combat the growing epidemic of child sexual exploitation and abuse.

U.S. Attorney Duane A. Evans praised the work of the U.S. Department of Homeland Security-Homeland Security Investigations, the Louisiana State Police, St. Tammany Parish Sheriff’s Office, and the Louisiana Bureau of Investigation in investigating this matter.

The prosecution of this case is being handled by Project Safe Childhood Coordinator and Fraud Section Chief, Assistant U.S. Attorney Brian M. Klebba.

Ricks will also be required to register as a sex offender pursuant to the Sex Offender Registration and Notification Act.

This case serves as a reminder of the importance of combating child sexual exploitation and abuse.
