Tampa, FL Felon Indicted for Possession of Ammunition

Tampa, FL – A convicted felon from St. Petersburg has been indicted for possession of ammunition, according to the United States Attorney for the Middle District of Florida, Roger B. Handberg.

Dartis Cobb (35, St. Petersburg) has been charged with one count of possession of ammunition by a convicted felon. If convicted, Cobb faces up to 10 years in federal prison.

According to the indictment, on August 13, 2022, Cobb knowingly possessed 9mm Luger ammunition. Cobb has previously been convicted of two felonies – robbery and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon – therefore he is prohibited from possessing a firearm or ammunition under federal law.

An indictment is merely a formal charge that a defendant has committed one or more violations of federal criminal law, and every defendant is presumed innocent unless, and until, proven guilty.

This case was investigated by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives and the Pinellas County Sheriff’s Office. It will be prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Samantha Newman.

The case is part of Project Safe Neighborhoods (PSN), a program bringing together all levels of law enforcement and the communities they serve to reduce violent crime and gun violence, and to make our neighborhoods safer for everyone.

The indictment alleges that Cobb knowingly possessed 9mm Luger ammunition, a violation of federal law. The case serves as a reminder of the importance of keeping our communities safe from gun violence and the consequences of violating federal law.
