Daryl Levi, Assault with Intent to Steal a Motor Vehicle, New Mexico 2020

A brutal assault shook the streets of Shiprock, New Mexico, in 2020. Daryl Levi, a 41-year-old enrolled member of the Navajo Nation, was at the center of the crime.

According to court documents, on May 17, 2020, Levi and others assaulted a victim with the intent of taking his motor vehicle. As a result of the assault, the victim was wounded.

Levi’s actions led to a federal investigation, with the Farmington Resident Agency of the FBI Albuquerque Field Office leading the charge. The Navajo Police Department and Navajo Department of Criminal Investigations provided assistance in the case.

The U.S. Attorney’s Office, led by U.S. Attorney Alexander M.M. Uballez, made the announcement today regarding Levi’s sentencing.

Assistant United States Attorneys Mark A. Probasco and Samuel A. Hurtado are prosecuting the case.

Levi will serve 46 months in prison for the assault. Upon his release from prison, he will be subject to three years of supervised release. There is no parole in the federal system.
