Davenport Man Sentenced for Child Pornography Charge
A 28-year-old Davenport man, Preston Andrew Cole, has been sentenced to 11 years and 6 months in federal prison for possession of child pornography. Cole, who was previously convicted of receiving child pornography in 2016, will also serve 10 years of supervised release after his prison term.
Cole was sentenced by United States District Court Judge Stephanie M. Rose to 144 months in prison, with 10 years of supervised release to follow. In addition to his prison term, Cole was ordered to pay $100 to the Crime Victims’ Fund and $3,000 in restitution.
The investigation into Cole’s child pornography possession began when a routine home contact was conducted by the United States Probation Office at his residence. During the contact, a probation officer noticed a wi-fi router and multiple electronic devices with internet connectivity capabilities. Cole subsequently admitted to viewing child pornography on the devices and consuming alcohol – both violations of his supervised release.
A forensic examination of the devices revealed multiple images of child pornography. Cole had previously pleaded guilty to the charge on April 28, 2021, and was sentenced to 24 months in prison for violating his supervised release. This new sentence will be served consecutive to the 24-month term.
Cole’s case was investigated by the Davenport Police Department and prosecuted by the United States Attorney’s Office for the Southern District of Iowa as part of the U.S. government’s “Project Safe Childhood” initiative. This initiative aims to reduce the incidence of sexual exploitation of children through law enforcement investigations and prosecutions, community action, and public awareness.
