David Brody Gunville, Methamphetamine Distribution, South Dakota 2018

David Brody Gunville, a 31-year-old Eagle Butte man, has been sentenced to 48 months in custody for his role in a massive methamphetamine distribution ring in South Dakota.

Gunville, who pleaded guilty to Conspiracy to Distribute a Controlled Substance, was handed down the sentence by U.S. District Court Judge Roberto A. Lange on April 30, 2018.

According to court documents, Gunville was involved in a widespread conspiracy to distribute methamphetamine between July 2015 and January 2017. He worked with others to distribute the highly addictive substance, and it’s estimated that between 200 to 350 grams of methamphetamine were distributed during the course of the conspiracy.

The investigation, which was led by the Federal Bureau of Investigation, the Cheyenne River Sioux Tribe Law Enforcement Services Narcotics Division, and the Northern Plains Safe Trails Drug Enforcement Task Force, uncovered a complex network of drug dealers and users in the region.

Assistant U.S. Attorney SaraBeth Donovan prosecuted the case, and Gunville was immediately taken into custody by the U.S. Marshals Service after his sentencing.

The case serves as a stark reminder of the devastating impact of methamphetamine on communities across South Dakota. The highly addictive substance has been linked to a range of serious health problems, including heart problems, respiratory issues, and mental health disorders.

Gunville’s sentence includes 48 months in custody, followed by 3 years of supervised release, a fine of $1,000, and a special assessment to the Federal Crime Victims fund in the amount of $100.
