A Pierre man has been indicted on severe charges of methamphetamine trafficking and firearm possession in South Dakota.
Paul Frost, 46, was indicted by a federal grand jury on October 16, 2018, on charges of Possession with Intent to Distribute a Controlled Substance and Possession of a Firearm by a Prohibited Person, as announced by United States Attorney Ron Parsons.
Frost appeared before U.S. Magistrate Judge Mark A. Moreno on October 23, 2018, and pled not guilty to the Indictment. The maximum penalty upon conviction is up to 20 years in federal prison and/or a $1,000,000 fine, at least 3 years of supervised release, and $100 to the Federal Crime Victims Fund.
The Indictment alleges that Frost knowingly and intentionally possessed with the intent to distribute methamphetamine, a Schedule II controlled substance, in South Dakota on June 15, 2018. It also alleges that Frost, being an unlawful user of a controlled substance, did knowingly possess firearms on both April 3, 2017, and June 15, 2018.
Drug trafficking is an inherently violent activity, with firearms being common tools of the trade for drug dealers. They are used to protect their illegal drug product and cash, and enforce their illegal operations, as stated by the U.S. Attorney.
This case is part of Project Safe Neighborhoods (PSN), a program that brings together all levels of law enforcement and the communities they serve to reduce violent crime and make our neighborhoods safer for everyone.
The investigation is being conducted by the Northern Plains Safe Trails Drug Enforcement Task Force, with Assistant U.S. Attorney Meghan N. Dilges prosecuting the case. Frost was released on bond pending trial, with a trial date yet to be set.
