Chicago Man Charged in 2008 Mumbai Terror Attacks

A Chicago man, David Coleman Headley, was charged with conspiracy in the 2008 Mumbai terror attacks that killed 170 people, including six Americans, and injured hundreds more. The charges were announced by Patrick J. Fitzgerald, U.S. Attorney for the Northern District of Illinois, and Robert D. Grant, Special Agent-in-Charge of the Chicago Office of the FBI.

According to the charges, Headley, 49, conducted extensive surveillance of targets in Mumbai for over two years preceding the November 2008 terrorist attack. The investigation is ongoing, with authorities continuing to seek charges against other individuals responsible for the attacks. The case serves as a reminder of the global nature of the terrorist threat and the need for international cooperation to combat terrorism.

Headley’s attorneys have authorized the Justice Department to disclose that he is cooperating in the ongoing investigation. His arraignment in U.S. District Court in Chicago has not been set yet.
