David Demazzio Tyler, Carjacking and Brandishing a Firearm, Mississippi 2022

A 32-year-old Jackson man is facing serious prison time after pleading guilty to carjacking and brandishing a firearm in relation to a crime of violence.

David Demazzio Tyler was arrested and charged in connection with a carjacking that occurred on December 2, 2021 in Clinton, Mississippi.

According to court documents, Tyler carjacked an 81-year-old victim at gunpoint.

Tyler was indicted on March 22, 2022 by a federal grand jury for armed carjacking and brandishing a firearm in relation to a crime of violence.

He is set to be sentenced on April 18, 2023 in U.S. District Court in Jackson. If convicted, Tyler faces a minimum sentence of seven years in prison and a maximum sentence of life in prison.

The case was investigated by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives and the Clinton Police Department.

Assistant United States Attorney Jessica S. Terrill is handling the prosecution.

This case is part of Project Safe Neighborhoods, a program aimed at reducing violent crime and gun violence in communities.
