A Kanawha County man has been convicted of stealing a firearm from a local pawn shop.
David Jefferson Womack, 45, of St. Albans, pleaded guilty to theft of a firearm from a federal firearms licensee, a crime punishable by up to 10 years in prison.
According to court documents and statements made in court, Womack stole a Kel-Tec, model P-32, .32-caliber pistol from a Kanawha County pawn shop on November 16, 2022. He was arrested by law enforcement officers on April 4, 2023, and admitted to the theft.
Womack is scheduled to be sentenced on October 18, 2023. At that time, he faces a maximum penalty of 10 years in prison, three years of supervised release, and a $250,000 fine.
The U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Southern District of West Virginia, commended the investigative work of the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) and the St. Albans Police Department in bringing this case to justice.
Senior United States District Judge John T. Copenhaver, Jr. presided over the hearing. Assistant United States Attorney Troy D. Adams is prosecuting the case.
The defendant, Womack, faces a serious sentence for his crime. The people of West Virginia demand justice for those who break the law, and we will continue to hold criminals accountable for their actions.
