David Ray Deberry Sentenced to 14 Years for Methamphetamine Conspiracy
CLARKSBURG, WEST VIRGINIA – In a major blow to the region’s narcotics trade, David Ray Deberry, a 34-year-old Terra Alta man, has been sentenced to 168 months of incarceration for his role in a methamphetamine conspiracy.
According to evidence presented in court, Deberry pleaded guilty in June 2021 to one count of “Conspiracy to Distribute More Than Fifty Grams or More of Methamphetamine” and one count of “Unlawful Possession of Firearm as Felon.”
Deberry’s crimes began in February 2017 when he started working with others to distribute more than 50 grams of methamphetamine in Harrison County and elsewhere. The scope of his operation continued until June 2018.
But Deberry’s troubles didn’t stop there. In January 2018, he was found in possession of a .45 caliber pistol in Marion County – a serious offense given his prior conviction, which made him a prohibited person from owning a firearm.
Assistant U.S. Attorney Andrew R. Cogar prosecuted the case on behalf of the government, with the Greater Harrison Drug Task Force and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms & Explosives providing critical investigative support.
Senior U.S. District Judge Irene M. Keeley presided over the case, handing down the maximum 14-year sentence to Deberry.
The sentencing marks a significant victory for law enforcement in the region, who have been working tirelessly to dismantle the methamphetamine trade and keep communities safe.
David Ray Deberry’s case serves as a stark reminder of the devastating consequences of methamphetamine use and the importance of holding those responsible accountable for their actions.
