The investigation into Scofield’s actions began after suspicions were raised about the union’s financial activities. The U.S. Department of Labor, Office of Labor-Management Standards, led the investigation, which ultimately led to Scofield’s downfall.
This case was prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Rudolph R. Rhodes IV. The National Fraud Enforcement Division, created by the Department of Justice in April 2022, is also involved in combating this type of fraud.
