A convicted felon has been sentenced to 14 months in prison for unlawful possession of a firearm. Davon Sargent, 30, of the District of Columbia, pleaded guilty to the charge in June 2025.
Sargent was sentenced by U.S. District Judge Amy Berman Jackson, who also ordered him to serve three years of supervised release. The sentence comes after Sargent was found with a loaded 9mm Glock 26 pistol in his possession during a traffic stop in September 2024.
According to court documents, Metropolitan Police officers pulled Sargent over after observing his vehicle, a black Chevrolet Cruise, traveling with its trunk open and failing to stop for a red light. When officers approached the vehicle, Sargent attempted to conceal something and then tried to push past the officers to escape.
During the struggle, an officer felt a hard object at Sargent’s waistband, which was later found to be the loaded Glock pistol. Sargent had previously pleaded guilty to carrying a pistol without a license and was therefore not allowed to possess a firearm.
The case was investigated by the Metropolitan Police Department and prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Emory V. Cole. Sargent’s sentence is a result of his guilty plea and the evidence presented in court.
