A Pittsburgh suburb resident has been sentenced to nine years in prison for distributing fentanyl and possessing a firearm as a convicted felon.
Dayon Chambers, 43, of Penn Hills, Pa., was sentenced by United States District Judge J. Nicholas Ranjan on his convictions for distribution of fentanyl and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, according to a statement from United States Attorney Cindy K. Chung.
Chambers distributed slightly more than 40 grams of fentanyl to a confidential informant on February 5, 2020. When law enforcement executed a search warrant at Chambers’ home after the transaction, they located a loaded shotgun and ammunition.
Chambers was precluded from possessing firearms and ammunition under federal law because he had previously been convicted of felony offenses.
Assistant United States Attorney Brendan T. Conway prosecuted this case on behalf of the government.
United States Attorney Chung commended the Federal Bureau of Investigation for the investigation leading to the successful prosecution of Chambers.
In a statement, Chung said, ‘I commend the Federal Bureau of Investigation for their tireless efforts in investigating and bringing to justice individuals who distribute deadly fentanyl and possess firearms as convicted felons.’
Chambers’ nine-year sentence is a result of his convictions, and he will serve his time in federal prison.
This case is a reminder of the serious consequences that come with distributing fentanyl and possessing firearms as a convicted felon.
The Federal Bureau of Investigation, along with local law enforcement agencies, will continue to work together to combat the opioid epidemic and keep our communities safe.
