DC Child Predator Gary Bellinger Found Guilty of Abuse

A 61-year-old Maryland man has been found guilty of preying on a minor in Washington D.C.

Gary Bellinger, 61, of Maryland, was convicted today of one count of first-degree child sexual abuse and one count of second-degree child sexual abuse in the Superior Court of the District of Columbia. The verdict was announced by U.S. Attorney Matthew M. Graves and Pamela A. Smith, Chief of the Metropolitan Police Department (MPD), following a four-day trial.

The evidence presented at trial revealed that in 2015, Bellinger sexually abused a 15-year-old female relative, leaving a lasting impact on the young victim’s life.

The potential penalty for Bellinger’s crimes is severe. He faces life imprisonment without the opportunity of release, a sentence that would keep him behind bars for the rest of his life. If released, he would be required to register as a sex offender for the remainder of his life, a constant reminder of his heinous crimes.

U.S. Attorney Graves and Chief Smith commended the work of the Metropolitan Police Department and the U.S. Attorney’s Office for their tireless efforts in bringing Bellinger to justice. The team, led by Assistant U.S. Attorneys Marco Crocetti and Kathleen Houck, worked diligently to ensure that justice was served.

The sentencing for Bellinger is scheduled for August 30, 2024, before The Honorable Maribeth Raffinan. As the community waits for justice to be served, one thing is clear: Gary Bellinger will be held accountable for his despicable crimes.

As a reminder to all predators, the people of Washington D.C. will not stand idly by while children are abused and exploited. The law will be enforced, and those who commit these heinous crimes will be brought to justice.
