A tragic accident marred the roads near Nashville, Illinois, on November 11, 1924, when a car driven by Mrs. Alice Buck, 40, of St. Louis, veered off the road and overturned. The X-ray supply manufacturer’s wife was thrown from the vehicle and suffered a fractured skull, which ultimately proved fatal.
The accident occurred approximately eight miles west of Nashville around 4:30 p.m.
Mrs. Buck’s husband, A.W. Buck, and their companions, Dr. J.F. Funkhauser, a dentist from St. Louis, and his wife, were fortunate to escape with only minor injuries.
The car, which was traveling with the group, was swerving to avoid a collision when it encountered a hole in the road, sending it careening out of control.
The driver, Mrs. Buck, was rushed to Addieville, a mere mile east of the accident site, but unfortunately succumbed to her injuries.
The incident serves as a stark reminder of the dangers of distracted driving and the importance of vigilance on the roads.
