Ben Burchfield, the man responsible for their brutal slaughter, was today sentenced to die in the electric chair on January 14, 1924. Burchfield’s heinous crime took place in Bristol, where he brutally murdered his wife, his stepson, Mr. and Mrs. 9 W. Smith, and their infant daughter in a senseless act of violence. The Tennessee Supreme Court has deemed his punishment fitting, and Burchfield will soon face the full weight of the law.
