St. Louis Men Sentenced for Illegal Firearm Possession
ST. LOUIS – In a recent case involving a 2020 crime spree, two St. Louis men have been sentenced for their roles in the incidents. Deandre Scott, 32, and Morocco Thompson-Bey, 24, both residents of St. Louis, have been held accountable for their actions.
On June 3, 2020, the St. Louis Metropolitan Police responded to a report of looting in the area of Kingshighway and Chippewa. When they arrived, they spotted several vehicles, which they began to surveil. The vehicles eventually stopped in the middle of the street, and the occupants began unloading items. When the police approached, a BMW, occupied by Scott and Thompson-Bey, sped off.
The officers were able to disable the BMW with the aid of spike strips, but the vehicle continued to flee from the officers. Thompson-Bey, the driver, and Scott abandoned the BMW and ran from the officers. Scott dropped a firearm during his flight, and both men were apprehended a short distance away. The firearm, a loaded .40 caliber pistol, was seized. A search of the BMW resulted in the recovery of a bag containing .45 caliber and 9mm caliber ammunition belonging to Thompson-Bey.
Prior to June 3, 2020, both Scott and Thompson-Bey were each convicted of at least one felony crime punishable by a term of imprisonment exceeding one year.
Scott was sentenced to 24 months in prison for being a felon in possession of a firearm, while Thompson-Bey received a sentence of 18 months for the same charge. The St. Louis Metropolitan Police investigated this case.
The incidents on June 3, 2020, demonstrate the dangers of illegal firearm possession and the importance of community vigilance in preventing crime. The sentences handed down to Scott and Thompson-Bey serve as a reminder of the consequences of such actions.
In a separate incident, a 32-year-old man was arrested after being caught with a loaded handgun in his waistband. He was charged with being a felon in possession of a firearm and was sentenced to 24 months in prison. A 24-year-old man was also arrested and sentenced to 18 months in prison for being a felon in possession of ammunition.
