DeAngelo A. Davidson, Illegal Possession of Firearms, Louisiana 2022

SHREVEPORT, La. – In a shocking turn of events, three Shreveport men have been sentenced to federal prison for their illegal possession of firearms and ammunition. United States Attorney Brandon B. Brown announced the sentencing, which is a major blow to the community’s safety.

DeAngelo A. Davidson, 33, was sentenced to 70 months in prison for his role in the crime. His accomplices, Gmerrio L. Underwood, 24, and Casey R. Cawthorn, 24, received 46 months and 37 months in prison, respectively. Each defendant will serve 3 years of supervised release following their release from prison.

The investigation began on September 10, 2022, when a Shreveport Police Department officer conducted a traffic stop of a Chevrolet Tahoe. The vehicle was occupied by four individuals, including Davidson, who was driving, and Cawthorn, who was in the front passenger seat. Underwood and an unnamed individual were in the back seat.

When the officer approached the vehicle, he noticed the odor of marijuana emanating from inside. A search of the vehicle revealed a plethora of loaded firearms, including a Glock Model 19 Gen 4, 9×19 caliber pistol underneath the front passenger seat, and an Anderson Arms AM-15 pistol found on the backseat floorboard by Underwood’s feet. Cawthorn hid a loaded Glock Model 43, 9×19 pistol, and a loaded Glock Model 19, 9mm pistol, underneath his seat, as well as a loaded Glock Model 43, 9×19 caliber pistol hidden in his jeans.

Each of the defendants has a previous felony conviction, which makes their possession of firearms and ammunition even more egregious. Davidson was previously convicted of possession with intent to distribute a Schedule II controlled substance in 2017. Underwood was convicted of illegal possession of stolen things in 2020, while Cawthorn’s previous felony conviction was for illegal possession of stolen firearms in 2021.

The case is part of an Organized Crime Drug Enforcement Task Forces (OCDETF) investigation, which aims to disrupt and dismantle the highest-level drug traffickers, money launderers, gangs, and transnational criminal organizations that threaten the United States.

The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives, Federal Bureau of Investigation, U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration, and Shreveport Police Department were all involved in the investigation, which was prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Jessica D. Cassidy.
