DeBary Dealer Pleads Guilty to Unlicensed Gun Sales

Orlando, Florida – In a move that highlights the growing concerns over gun violence in Florida, Brandon Eugene Brooke, a 30-year-old DeBary man, has pleaded guilty to dealing in firearms without a license. According to the plea agreement, Brooke faces a maximum penalty of five years in federal prison.

Between April 14 and October 10, 2022, Brooke purchased 69 firearms from federal firearms license dealers (FFLs). Many of the firearms were identical and were purchased together or close in time to one another. A search of Brooke’s phone revealed evidence of firearms dealing, which was a major turning point in the investigation.

On October 13, 2022, agents with the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) questioned Brooke regarding his repeated purchases of identical firearms from FFLs. A “Warning Notice of Unlicensed Firearms Dealing in Violation of Federal Law” was served to Brooke, which he acknowledged and signed. However, Brooke continued to purchase and sell firearms to third parties, in violation of federal law.

The investigation into Brooke’s activities was led by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives. The case is being prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorneys Michael P. Felicetta and Noah P. Dorman as part of Project Safe Neighborhoods (PSN), a program aimed at reducing violent crime and gun violence in communities across the country.

Project Safe Neighborhoods is a coordinated effort to bring together all levels of law enforcement and the communities they serve to reduce violent crime and gun violence. The program is based on four core principles: fostering trust and legitimacy in our communities, supporting community-based organizations that help prevent violence from occurring in the first place, setting focused and strategic enforcement priorities, and measuring the results.

The case against Brooke serves as a reminder of the importance of enforcing federal laws related to firearms and ensuring that those who deal in firearms do so in a licensed and responsible manner. As the country continues to grapple with the issue of gun violence, cases like Brooke’s will play a critical role in shaping the conversation and driving change.
