Defendant Flees Rehabilitation Center
HARRISBURG, PA – A brazen escape from a rehabilitation center has landed a Harrisburg man in hot water. Terrell Ike Luster, 31, was indicted for escape after fleeing the Capital Pavilion Residential Reentry Center on July 7, 2020.
According to David J. Freed, United States Attorney for the Middle District of Pennsylvania, the indictment alleges that Luster failed to return to the center where he was confined for his conviction on charges of unlawful possession of a firearm by a felon, possession of firearm during commission of federal drug charge, and possession with intent to distribute crack cocaine.
The case was investigated by the United States Marshal Services for the Middle District of Pennsylvania, who apprehended Luster without incident on July 23, 2020. Assistant U.S. Attorney Jaime Keating is prosecuting the case.
Indictments and Criminal Informations are only allegations. All persons charged are presumed to be innocent unless and until found guilty in court.
Luster faces a maximum penalty of 5 years imprisonment, a term of supervised release following imprisonment, and a fine. The sentence will be determined by the Judge after consideration of the applicable federal sentencing statutes and the Federal Sentencing Guidelines.
The case highlights the importance of rehabilitation centers in helping individuals reintegrate into society after serving time for their crimes. However, it also underscores the need for stricter measures to prevent escapes and ensure public safety.
Luster’s indictment serves as a reminder that the justice system will not tolerate those who attempt to flee from their responsibilities and the law.
