DEJA MONET PHILLIPS, an 18-year-old resident of Houlka, Mississippi, has entered a guilty plea for Misprison of a Felony, a charge stemming from the concealment of a substantial quantity of methamphetamine. The U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Eastern District of Oklahoma announced this development.
This crime occurred within the jurisdiction of the Eastern District of Oklahoma, with Phillips alleged to have assisted another individual in hiding the illegal substance on or about March 6, 2014. Despite having multiple opportunities to report the crime to law enforcement, she failed to do so.
The investigation into this case was conducted by the Oklahoma Highway Patrol and the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA), leading to Phillips’ arrest and subsequent arraignment.
Judge Steven P. Shreder of the United States District Court for the Eastern District of Oklahoma, sitting in Muskogee, accepted the guilty plea from Phillips and has ordered the completion of a presentence report to determine her punishment.
The potential sentence for Misprison of a Felony includes up to three years imprisonment and a fine of $250,000. Assistant United States Attorney Kyle Waters represented the government in this case.
Phillips’ case underscores the ongoing efforts by federal agencies to combat drug trafficking and ensure justice is served in cases involving the concealment of illegal substances.
