Carjacking Suspect Sentenced to 52 Months in Prison
A Chicago man has been sentenced to 52 months in prison followed by three years of supervised release for aiding and abetting a carjacking in downtown Minneapolis.
Delaney Nicholas Harris, 21, was sentenced by U.S. District Judge Susan Richard Nelson after entering a guilty plea on March 25, 2022, to a single count of aiding and abetting carjacking.
According to court documents, Harris was involved in a carjacking incident in Minneapolis on June 1, 2020. Two men, including Harris, approached a man who was exiting his vehicle and threw him to the ground. One of the men displayed a gun, threatened to kill the victim, and demanded his car keys.
A witness reported seeing Harris holding a red plastic cup prior to the incident. Police recovered the cup and found that the fingerprints and DNA on it matched Harris.
The case was the result of an investigation conducted by the FBI and the Minneapolis Police Department.
Assistant U.S. Attorney David P. Steinkamp prosecuted the case.
Harris’s sentence is a result of his involvement in the violent carjacking, which highlighted the dangers of street crime in our city.
