Demetrius Lowry, False Statements, New York 2023

Buffalo Man Charged with Lying to a Grand Jury About a Murder Investigation

A 24-year-old Buffalo man has been indicted for providing false information to a grand jury investigating the murder of a local resident.

Demetrius Lowry, also known as Little D, was charged with false declarations before the grand jury and obstruction of justice. The charges carry a maximum penalty of 20 years in prison.

According to the indictment, Lowry provided false information to Buffalo Police Homicide detectives in 2015 about the shooting death of Jaquan Sullivan. Sullivan was shot and killed on December 5, 2015, in the vicinity of Parkdale Avenue in Buffalo.

Lowry initially provided details of the shooting, including the identity of the person who shot Sullivan. However, he later sent a text message to the Buffalo Police Confidential Tip Line stating that the information he provided was ‘totally wrong,’ and he did not know who was involved in the shooting.

Lowry was interviewed by detectives multiple times, and he provided conflicting information about the shooting. He also testified before a federal grand jury, denying that he had written and signed statements admitting to providing false information.

The investigation was conducted by the Buffalo Police Department, the Federal Bureau of Investigation, and the Erie County Sheriff’s Office. Lowry was arraigned before U.S. Magistrate Judge Michael J. Roemer and released on conditions.

The fact that a defendant has been charged with a crime is merely an accusation, and Lowry is presumed innocent until proven guilty.

The indictment is the result of an investigation by the Buffalo Police Department, under the direction of Commissioner Byron Lockwood, the Federal Bureau of Investigation, under the direction of Special Agent-in-Charge Gary Loeffert, and the Erie County Sheriff’s Office, under the direction of Sheriff Timothy Howard.
