Berkeley County Man Guilty of Illegally Possessing a Firearm
MARTINSBURG, WEST VIRGINIA – Dennis Allen High, 29, of Falling Waters, West Virginia, has admitted to breaking the law and is now facing the consequences. High, a convicted felon, pleaded guilty to illegally possessing a firearm in Berkeley County.
On July 2016, High was found in possession of multiple firearms, a serious offense considering his prior felony conviction in Maryland. High is prohibited from owning firearms, making his actions a clear disregard for the law.
High’s guilty plea to one count of ‘Unlawful Possession of a Firearm’ could lead to up to ten years in prison and a fine of up to $250,000. The Federal Sentencing Guidelines will determine the actual sentence based on the severity of the offense and High’s prior criminal history.
Assistant U.S. Attorney Shawn M. Adkins prosecuted the case on behalf of the government. The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives and the Berkeley County Sheriff’s Office conducted the investigation.
U.S. Magistrate Judge Robert W. Trumble presided over the case. High’s actions are a stark reminder of the importance of adhering to the law and respecting the rights of others.
The guilty plea marks a significant step in the justice process, but the true impact of High’s actions will only be fully realized if he is held accountable for his crimes. As our community continues to grapple with the complexities of crime and punishment, it is essential to remain vigilant and committed to upholding the law.
