Dennis Lee Richardson, Possessing a Firearm, Louisiana 2018

SHREVEPORT, La. – In a shocking turn of events, Dennis Lee Richardson, a 29-year-old Shreveport resident, has been sentenced to 57 months in prison for possessing a loaded Glock semi-automatic pistol.

According to the U.S. Attorney’s Office, Richardson was seen by law enforcement agents sitting in a parked car in the driveway of a Prentiss Street residence on June 29, 2018. Agents observed a loaded pistol with an extended clip on the floorboard behind the front passenger seat.

Richardson, a convicted felon, pleaded guilty to the federal firearms charge on December 11, 2018. He had previously pleaded guilty to attempted illegal carrying of weapons while in possession of a controlled dangerous substance in Caddo Parish on March 10, 2014.

Under federal law, felons are prohibited from possessing a firearm or ammunition. Richardson’s actions put himself and others at risk, and his sentence is a stark reminder of the consequences of violating these laws.

The ATF and the Caddo-Shreveport Narcotics Task Force conducted the investigation, with Assistant U.S. Attorneys Jessica D. Cassidy and Earl M. Campbell prosecuting the case.

Richardson was sentenced to four years and nine months in prison by Chief U.S. District Judge S. Maurice Hicks Jr. He will also serve three years of supervised release following his incarceration.

This case is a prime example of the importance of Project Safe Neighborhoods, a program aimed at reducing violent crime. By working together, law enforcement agencies and community stakeholders can identify and address the most pressing violent crime problems in our communities.
