GRIMY NEWS ALERT: Simon Meza, a 45-year-old Denver resident, was convicted by a federal jury on two counts of bank robbery. Meza’s criminal spree began with an armed heist at Huntington Bank in September 2023, followed by another at PNC Bank eight days later.
In the second incident, police tracked a GPS tracker to a rental truck near the robbed PNC Bank. A high-speed chase ensued when Denver Police attempted to arrest Meza, ending in a four-car accident. Despite injuries, Meza fled but was eventually captured by officers. Inside the truck, they found stolen money and a Glock 27 firearm.
Meza had previously pled guilty to being a felon in possession of a firearm and ammunition in relation to these crimes. The trial was presided over by United States District Judge Regina M. Rodriguez, and Assistant United States Attorneys Brian Dunn and Thomas Minser handled the prosecution. Sentencing is scheduled for November.
This case was investigated by the FBI Denver Field Office, the Rocky Mountain Safe Streets Task Force, and the Denver Police Department. Case Number: 1:23-cr-00446-RMR.
