Dequan Mitchell, Felon in Possession of a Firearm, California 2026

A Vallejo man has been sentenced to prison for his second crime involving firearms.

Dequan Mitchell, 23, was sentenced to 33 months in prison for being a felon in possession of a firearm, U.S. Attorney Eric Grant announced. Mitchell’s crime occurred on or about October 2025, when a firearm was stolen from a carjacking victim.

At 16, Mitchell murdered a man. While on probation for that crime, investigators discovered Mitchell was involved in posting a firearm for sale in an illicit gun trafficking application. A search of Mitchell’s mother’s home revealed a loaded Glock 23 with an extended clip, the same gun Mitchell offered to sell for $1,200 in the gun trafficking forum.

The firearm was found to be stolen from a carjacking victim in October 2025. Mitchell’s prior conviction prohibits him from possessing firearms.

The Solano County Sheriff’s Office, the Solano County Probation Department, the Federal Bureau of Investigation, and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives conducted the investigation. Assistant U.S. Attorney Jason Hitt prosecuted.

Mitchell is prohibited from possessing firearms due to his prior conviction. His involvement in gun trafficking has resulted in his second crime involving firearms, this time resulting in a 33-month prison sentence.

The case is part of the U.S. Attorney’s Office’s commitment to making communities safe and addressing public safety challenges.
